Artist Bio: 

 

Ashlyn Kuy is an emerging Toronto based choreographer and performer. She completed four years at York University with a BFA (Honours) in Dance. She received intensive training from knowledgable faculty in ballet and modern dance and choreographed for student run productions including: Bloom, Dance Innovations, York Dances and Strength In Diversity. As a previous member of the York Dance Ensemble (YDE), she had the pleasure of performing in works by Toronto choreographers at various Toronto venues.

 

    In addition to her classical training, she has a passion for the commercial industry. She trained, performed, choreographed with IE Crew and DARK Dance Company. Ashlyn was also featured in a number of music and commercial videos such as: Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, Sia’s, “Santa’s Coming for Us”, music video performances for Limore Music and Youtube Sensation AzzyLand and Big Nem. Ashlyn intends to pursue choreography and performance professionally.

Piece Description:

 

Nature is Speaking acknowledges the transformations that have occurred to our Earth, over time, due to human negligence. Inspired by Conservation International’s conceptual video series, choreographer: Ashlyn Kuy and performers, encourage audiences to recognize the impacts their

actions have on our home and expresses the need for change.

 

    In the near future, Ashlyn will be co-presenting and producing a dance show. She will further develop her work of Nature is Speaking by including a diverse cast of dancers, ranging from classical to urban dance forms. The work is directed to dance and non-dance audiences. Her mission is to bring awareness to climate change and give nature a voice through dance.
